Mega Evolution returned to the card game in 2025 as Mega Pokémon ex. Every Japanese set of the era is built around one or two of them. Their gold Mega Ultra Rares sit at the top of almost every Mega era set, which makes them the defining chase cards of the era. Every card below made the top three of its set on Japanese market prices in October 2026.
Every Mega ex in a set's top three

The table runs from the newest set to the oldest. Most sets have their headline Mega in the top three twice, once as the gold Mega Ultra Rare and once as a Special Art Rare.

How rare is a Mega Ultra Rare?
Pokémon doesn't publish pull rates. Going by collector opening records, a Mega Ultra Rare turns up in about 1 box in 50 to 55, which is why it tops nearly every set. Special Art Rares are far easier to find at roughly 1 box in 3 to 6. Our pull rates guide explains where those figures come from and why none of them is a promise.
Mega ex in the game
Mega Pokémon ex are strong cards with high HP and big attacks. The catch is that your opponent takes 3 Prize cards when one is Knocked Out, compared with 2 for a regular Pokémon ex. Our Mega era guide covers every set of the era and the new rarities it brought in.
Which box to open
Pick the set built around the Mega you love most. Mega Charizard X ex leads Inferno X, Mega Rayquaza ex leads Storm Emeralda and Mega Gardevoir ex leads Mega Symphonia. Start Deck 100 also has a Mega Charizard Y ex Mega Ultra Rare in a rare gold version of deck No. 001. If one card is the goal, the single is the only sure way to get it. Our price checking guide shows what each is worth.
